Do you deal with medication delays? A lot of hospices unfortunately do. Often times, hospices have noticed a huge delay in pharmacies being sent or having received medication orders. This leads to a cycle of entering medications in multiple times, and sometimes the pharmacies never even receiving the medication orders. These delays lead to needless patient suffering.
Let’s talk about how third party ePrescribes add on the workload for nurses and staff. First we’ll start with a question. Does your EMR connect with your ePrescribe? If you said ‘no’, you’re not alone. In addition to that, more work is accumulated by third parties requiring you to have a login/password for their sites. If that wasn’t enough, some ePrescribes will even make nurses enter NDC codes to order medications. Across the board, it’s way more work than it needs to be.

This is a common issue a lot of hospice staff face because no notifications are given once medication orders have been placed or received by the pharmacy. Nurses will have to call and make sure that the orders have been received and also follow-up with the status so they know when it will be ready. As a last resort, some prescribers will even default to written scripts if the third party ePrescribe fails to send the order.
